Nariyása Clans encompass many settlements and states of both Nariyása continents, though most are situated in central Eastern Nariyása. These states can be seen as rough and barbaric, but are quickly gaining in the economical and technological race.

Communication[]

Numbers are duodecimal (12-based). Writing is right-to-left, top-down, often even with alphabets that originally were used left-to-right. The most common language is Vilkrészt, followed by Vilrán.

Typical Government[]

Local governments are typically a delicate balance between the power of chieftains or warlords, and elder councils. In general, regular citizens can only influence policy-making by requesting an audience with a council elder.

Law & Order[]

The legal system is mixed, semi-codified, and backed by tradition more than by rulings of specific individual judges. Courts typically consist of a designated person who is judge, jury and executioner, or a council of lesser elders. A person may and should represent oneself in court; attorneys are rare, and frowned upon. There's not much regard for licenses and copyrights, but trademarks are semi-enforced due to being considered somewhat similar to a personal reputation. Weapon ownership is generally legal, but bigger weapons can get the attention of the ones on top. Libel law is lax. The Castle Doctrine is held to a reasonable extent. Age of consent varies between 14-24 (human equivalent: 12-21), mostly at the whim of the person's parents (but once the parents name the age, the choice is binding). Being a non-married father can result in conscription (and the alimony is paid from the military service's salary; it's a complicated, old law). Alcohol and smoking are legal, and some traditional drugs are too. Chewing gum is legal. Prostitution frowned upon, and commonly illegal. Abortion is legal. In conflicts between parental rights and child rights, the former are protected to the detriment of the latter.

Economics[]

Moderate income gap between the richest and the poorest. Small business is okay, big business is somewhat mistrusted. There's not much banking around, and the trend with loans is not solidified yet. There is no minimum wage limit, but in many places a worker may demand at least two meals for a day's work, no matter what the salary is. Medicine and education is almost never free, but it is sometimes clan-sponsored. Retirement is mostly a matter of having a good enough reputation for wisdom to be supported by one's younger clanmates.

Mores[]

Families are extended, with many children; polygyny and polyandry are commonly legal and accepted (but in that case, the 'smaller' side is expected to pay the cost of living for the whole family). The total extended family is referred to as a Clan, and shares a unique Clan Name; this is where term 'Clan Culture' comes from.

The Neighbours are commonly friends. Strong language is discouraged in the presence of elders, but otherwise tolerated. Flaunting material wealth should be done carefully and subtly, to avoid insulting others. Public display of affection is considered acceptable, to a point, among family members, but not otherwise. Matters of romance are discussed openly if the couple (or more) is married, but not otherwise; sexuality can be discussed without allusions or euphemisms, but strictly in private.

Traditions[]

Funerals commonly involve burning the corpse.
